Matt was born and grew up in San Luis Obispo, California (known for California Polytechnic University (CalPoly)) and graduated from The Master’s University in Santa Clarita, CA with a BA in Political Studies: American Politics in 2006. In his own words, he spent a lot of time and money figuring out what he didn’t want his career to be. Matt discovered his love for the classroom while teaching English for 6 summers in Havlicuv Brod, Czech Republic, later teaching AP Comparative Politics and Philosophy for a semester at an English international school in Prague, Czech Republic.
He moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, married his wife Jen, and started working as an Academic Advisor at Liberty University in 2009 and as a Training Manager in the LU Online call center from 2011-2016.
Matt feels the most rewarding thing about his role as Training Developer for Managerial Reporting is twofold: Learning new technical content and figuring out how to boil it down to something valuable to the end user and, secondly, being able to see the “lightbulb” moment in training when something makes sense to a learner. Outside of work, Matt and his wife raise their 9 month old twins, Cooper and Evelyn. In his very little spare time he spends time working and detailing his cars, pining for a classic car to work on, and playing bass, songwriting, and recording.
